Since this is my first pregnancy I don't have any clue what to expect (other than what other people tell me & books). Right now I am just rolling with the punches as they are served in my body, because after all- we are all different.
Thursday was a really bad day for me. It was my first real dose of this thing called "morning sickness", (even though it hit in the afternoon). I thought to myself, this too shall pass, but then became very upset. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't nap. Awful is the only way to describe it. By Friday morning I was feeling somewhat human. Thank goodness! My husband and I went on to have a lovely night surrounded by great friends.
I woke up Saturday morning still feeling good and headed to yoga. I was so happy. A normal day! A day to get stuff done! And then BOOM, it was back with vengeance. All my plans for the day foiled. Which makes me incredibly cranky and quite frankly sad. This carried into Sunday. Luckily a great tip was passed along about GINGER (ale, tea, chews, etc.) on Sunday afternoon. I purchased a Peach Ginger Tea & Ginger Ale that evening. Hot damn it is working! Even though I have a pretty hard time choking it down, I will as long as it continues to work. Big thanks ladies!!
With that being said, what were your "remedies" for not sleeping, cramps & morning sickness in the early stages of your pregnancy?

I totally feel for ya girl - the morning (all-day) sickness is not fun and can be exhausting - mine didn't end until I was 18 weeks and would come back off and on. My tricks. . .
- mints (mentos, altoids, etc)
- Flat soda water, sipped
- contstant snacking on anything I could bare to eat (mostly tangerines and saltines).
- Ginger candies and ginger ale (LOTS OF IT)
Cramps - walk it out. I would have to leave my desk at work and walk around the block at around 10:00 each day. Stay uber hydrated and go to the restroom often (which shouldn't be a problem :)
Sleeping - ok, don't laugh. I did Hypnobabies CD's. They worked! I instantly started sleeping better the moment I started listening to the tracks. I had an emergency c-section, so wasn't able to put all I learned to practice for birthing, but it helped me stay calm going into surgery.
Good luck, hang in there!
I read that getting up out of bed quickly is what can ruin a whole day for morning sickness.
I had a bowl of cheerios on my nightstand and would eat a handful before I even got out of bed, and lay there for 5-10 minutes while my body woke up.
I also would grap a handful and munch on them in the middle of the night if I woke up and had to change positions. It really seemed to help for me to avoid getting even the slightest bit hungry.
Not that I really felt hungry, but it was all about prevention.
It is so confusing when hungry and sick feel the same.
I was fortunate to dodge the morning sickness stuff but the handout from my clinic says you can also take Dramamine, use a Sea Band, ginger tablets, or Unisom tablets (1/2 to 1 tab at bedtime; may also take 1/2 tabe in the morning and mid-afternoon).
I also heard that Benadryl helps a lot of people as well and is safe during pregnancy.
Good luck!
I can't even look at a ginger ale when I am not pregnant, they are my survival! Plus I swear the second I find out I am pregnant, I stop sleeping. I wish I had some advice, but I will commiserate! Congrats!
Okay, this is coming from someone who has never been able to carry past 12 weeks. So, take it for what it is worth. All I've ever experienced in the morning sickness phase, and the 2 things that always helped were the ginger ale, and lemon water. I always plop a lemon in my water bottle, and I sip it all day long when I am pregnant. I am a teacher, so I can't take a break, even if I am feeling sick. The lemon water worked miracles for my sanity and my ability to ease the queasiness, every time I have been pregnant.
Good luck!
Different things work for different mamas, but what worked for me was constant high protein snacks, sipping lemon water all day, vitamin B, medic mate wrist bands (similar to sea bands BUT awesome - adjustable so I wore them so tight I thought I'd have permanent marks for life!) try sleeping with your head propped on an extra pillow if nausea is keeping you up at night. Hopefully you'll find something that works for you!!! PS - I have hypnobabies tracks for nausea and sleep if you want I can get them to you! My cramping/spotting went away around 12 weeks. Love you friend!!!
